CreativeQuantum GmbH (project coordinator)

CreativeQuantum specializes in performing quantum mechanics-based research and development for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Here, chemical and physical properties of substances and materials are calculated using quantum chemistry and chemical reactions and processes are elucidated in detail. The potential of CQ's approach was demonstrated with the development of a completely new MeOH process.

Gumpert Automobile GmbH

For almost 20 years, entrepreneur Ronald Gumpert has been committed to the development of sustainable mobility. In 2018, for example, the "Nathalie" vehicle concept was presented to the public. Here, the concept of a methanol fuel cell was implemented in the passenger car. Compared with previous methanol-based vehicle concepts, such as Daimler's NeCar and NeBus project series, the project consortium uses a newly developed high-temperature fuel cell.
Gumpert has gained experience in the use of methanol-powered fuel cells in the aforementioned road-going vehicle "Nathalie" and a converted electric Smart car, thus providing fundamental proof of the technical feasibility of such a drive concept. The company's strategic focus is on the sustainable transformation of long-distance passenger and freight transportation.

DBI - Gas Technology Institute gGmbH Freiberg (DBI-GTI)

DBI-GTI is a research and development company unique in Europe. Its business areas are oriented towards the increasing requirements and opportunities in the energy industry as well as the continuous development of its own competences. Together with its parent company DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH, DBI-GTI is able to serve the entire value chain from gas production to gas transport and gas utilization.
The company investigates the fundamental issues of gas supply. Special focal points are environmental protection in the existing value chain in the supply of natural gas as well as the integration of regenerative energy sources such as biomass, biogas, solar thermal energy and geothermal energy.
Within the joint project Koralle (BMBF, FKZ: 033RK069A), the DBI-GTI has already developed a plant for the demand-oriented on-site generation of carbon monoxide, which is based on the reverse water gas shift reaction (rWGS). Here, the feedstocks CO2 and hydrogen enable the substitution of fossil fuels, making a further contribution to sustainability.

University of Stuttgart, Department Life Cycle Engineering (GaBi)

GaBi's competencies include ecological, socio-economic as well as technical analysis and optimization from process to product. The sustainability studies build a bridge between the built and the natural environment: from energy supply, the production of materials, the recovery and recycling of high-value material flows to mobility, building and living of today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
Research work here covers diverse topics such as novel mobility concepts, renewable energy sources and energy storage, bio-based materials, functionally integrated materials and components, circular economy, resource efficiency and lightweight construction, land use and biodiversity.
GaBi has already gained experience in the LCA of novel methanol production processes in the OptiMeOH project (BMBF, funding code: 033RC007D) and will be extended in this project to consider the new high-efficiency methanol production process described above.
